Ocean Rangers volunteer training — Be part of the inland ocean movement

Boulder, Colorado – August 15, 2016 – The Colorado Ocean Coalition (COCO), a nonprofit organization devoted to raising awareness about our inland connection to the ocean, will host its bi-annual volunteer leadership training in Boulder on August 24. People who are at least 15 years old and interested in taking the training can sign up now by 5pm Monday August 22.

The training is designed for the general public who would like to become involved in COCO’s outreach and programming opportunities. This fun and dynamic four-hour training covers topics including watershed health, sustainable seafood, plastic pollution, ocean acidification, microbeads and more. After the training, volunteers will be equipped to take positive action and educate others including students, legislative leaders, and residents, about land to ocean stewardship. Volunteers are central to COCO and we have many opportunities including water quality monitoring, outreach events, school and public presentations, creek clean-ups, blogging, social media and overall participation in the organization.

About COCO:
The Colorado Ocean Coalition was founded in 2011 by Vicki Nichols Goldstein, a certified SCUBA diver, former National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration employee, and an experienced marine conservation nonprofit manager. It is the only inland ocean movement in the United States. COCO is a project of the Ocean Foundation, a 501(C)(3) organization. In 2013, COCO was formally recognized by Assembly member Mark Stone and NOAA’s Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary as the first Inland Ocean Community in the United States.
