John George

(FY27–Current)

John George is a sustainable finance and policy professional whose work bridges institutional finance, climate policy, and multi-stakeholder engagement. He currently leads work on sustainability partnerships at Barclays across climate and nature themes. Throughout his career, John has focused on engaging global investors on climate-related risks and opportunities and developing sustainability strategies on behalf of leading asset managers. He has also led policy advocacy for financial institutions and NGOs across sustainable finance, economic, and health care policy, and engages today across leading coalitions focused on climate, nature, and energy transition topics. Through this work, he has prepared and provided testimony for federal and state-level hearings on economic policy.
 
While at Lord Abbett, a US investment management firm, John led sustainability strategy and impact reporting, including the launch and commercialization of one of the first climate-focused fixed income funds in the US. His commitment to coastal and ocean systems traces to his graduate capstone at Columbia University, where he led a team of twelve researching marine ecosystems and the economic and social dimensions of coastal resilience and ecosystem services. The work produced a strategic roadmap for mangrove project development and the sale of blue carbon credits generated through sequestration, structuring a viable and resilient model for restoration finance. He has shaped programming at global gatherings including the UN Climate Change Conference (COP), Biodiversity COP, and Climate Weeks in London and New York City.
 
John also co-hosts Sustainability in Progress, a podcast on the people and ideas driving the sustainability transition, and previously served as a Sustainability Consultant with Everoot Consulting. He holds an MS in Sustainability Management from Columbia University’s Climate School, a Graduate Certificate in Sustainable Design from IE University in Madrid, and a BS in Finance from Rutgers University. He is also an Advisory Board Member for IE NYC’s MS program on Sustainable Business Transformation.
