I am writing today to share my gratitude for the power, wisdom, and compassion of The Ocean Foundation’s Board of Advisors. These generous people have ensured that TOF has a deep bench of experts from its very beginnings.
When The Ocean Foundation was started, it was very small. It had a handful of part-time consultants, a volunteer board of directors, and a network of people who cared about the ocean who helped frame the vision for its work.
Within the first year, the Board agreed that there needed to be a formal board of advisors, a group of people who were experts in their fields, cared about the ocean, and were willing to be asked to share their expertise from time to time as it was needed. The thing about experts is they tend to be very busy people with a lot of demands on their time. So it was also agreed that they would only be asked to answer specific questions within their area of expertise and, when they had time, to help keep us honest by reading TOF newsletters and other communications and letting us know how we were doing.
Over more than two decades, The Ocean Foundation’s Board of Advisors has helped us serve the global community of those who are passionate about the ocean and work so hard to support its well-being. They have offered critiques and celebrated successes. Their contribution is priceless and we are grateful beyond measure for their dedication to their own work and to ours.
For the Ocean,
Angel Braestrup
Chair, TOF Board of Advisors
