The Board of Directors of The Ocean Foundation (TOF) is pleased to announce the election of Dr. Joshua Ginsberg as our new Board Chair to help guide us into our next chapter. A dedicated advocate for ecology and conservation science and a successful non-profit leader, he brings 30 years of nonprofit governance experience and a deep commitment to our mission. As a three-term board member since 2014, Dr. Ginsberg’s return to the board this year brings a deep understanding of our organization’s values and operations, ensuring a seamless transition in leadership. His appointment reinforces our unwavering commitment to improve global ocean health, climate resilience, and the blue economy.
According to Mark J. Spalding, TOF’s President, “This appointment positions us strongly for continued success in serving our community and maintaining the highest program delivery standards. Plus, Josh is a pleasure to work with.”
“Over my tenure as Board Chair, I’ve had the privilege of working closely with Josh and witnessing his remarkable dedication to our mission firsthand. His strategic insight, detailed knowledge about financial matters, and deep connection to our community make him the ideal leader for our next chapter. I can step down knowing that The Ocean Foundation is in very competent hands,” said Elliot Cafritz, TOF’s immediate past chair, who is temporarily stepping off the board for family reasons. “I look forward to being able to return to the Board soon,” he added.
In accepting this appointment, Dr. Ginsberg shared, “I step into this role with deep respect for our organization’s legacy and immense gratitude for the trust placed in me. These are challenging times for the planet and our county, but I have faith that by working with our exceptional board, staff, partners, and supporters, we can strengthen our vital work to connect all peoples in the communities in which we work to the informational, technical, and financial resources they need to achieve their ocean stewardship goals and move forward the realize our mission.
