OverviewBásico Carbon is a sole-member scientific consultancy with a mission to validate the potential of ocean alkalinity enhancement (OAE) as a carbon removal solution through research and development support. Laura Stieghorst, Básico’s founder, works independently across every sector of marine carbon dioxide removal research with startup, nonprofit, university, and government partners. Significant research has included testing the impact of OAE on coral growth and its rate carbon uptake in partnership with the University of Miami, facilitating multi-party field research in Halifax, Canada, and managing a research fellowship to develop a research roadmap for the OAE industry.
