Mission: Friends of Bello Mundo is a collective of environmental experts who perform advocacy work to advance global conservation objectives to realize a healthier ocean and healthier Planet. Bello Mundo works with governments, scientists, community leaders, members of industry, and other relevant stakeholders to advance both domestic and international policies with the aim of conserving and rebuilding terrestrial, marine, and coastal ecosystems and biodiversity.
Vision: As the twin crises of biodiversity loss and climate change threaten Earth’s natural processes and put humanity’s future at risk, Bello Mundo is focused on driving forward transformative change for the Planet and securing global regulations and policies which safeguard and rebuild natural ecosystems. Recognizing the ocean’s pivotal role in regulating the Earth’s climate, and sequestering carbon and excess heat from human activities, Bello Mundo’s work is particularly focused on conserving marine and coastal environments.
Activities: Bello Mundo’s portfolio of work centers on efforts to restore and protect ecosystems and biodiversity, giving the Planet its best chance to cope with the growing threats of the climate crisis. Additionally, Bello Mundo works to ensure meaningful protections, those that have been scientifically proven to produce the best conservation benefits. In the near term, Bello Mundo’s goals are to:
- Contribute to the global goal to protect at least 30% of the global ocean by 2030 through a global network of fully and highly protected marine areas (30×30)
- Mobilize all stakeholders, including the private sector to help advance the 30×30 goal
- Help link up marine protections in different regions across the globe
- Contribute to efforts to halt biodiversity loss and safeguard marine species
