Friends of Lokahi Ocean Science leads marine conservation research expeditions from a sailing research vessel.
Vision: We recognize that we need data, exploration, and storytelling to make informed conservation decisions regarding our oceans, yet the ways in which we engage in that process require intentionality. Our vision is a shift in the global culture around how we relate to each other and the natural world, one in which we channel climate awareness, community-building, and collective awakening to take part in the movement that will heal ourselves.
Activities: We collaborate with local scientists, storytellers, and communities to better understand and protect our marine and coastal environments. Our current project focuses on the development of a network of marine protected areas in the Gulf of California that will increase the region’s resilience to current and future threats.
