Dan is deeply devoted to the ocean and is involved with ocean conservation, sustainability, and philanthropy. He currently provides strategic and operational consulting to nonprofits and advises philanthropic foundations. Dan most recently served as President and CEO of the Ocean Institute in Dana Point, CA leading the organization through new strategic planning, operations and major gifts. Prior to Ocean Institute, he lead the Laguna Beach Community Foundation as their executive director. Previously, Dan was CEO of Sailors for the Sea which galvanized the sailing community around ocean conservation. Dan worked closely with David Rockefeller, Jr. to grow the organization from a start-up nonprofit to a global entity. He also worked with USEPA on tribal, water, and ocean issues for ten years. Dan has served for many years as an Advisor to the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board since its inception and helped draft the original nonprofit framework of SASB. Dan has also served on the Board of Directors for The Ecology Center which inspires and creates a sustainable, healthy and abundant future for all. During his free time, Dan can be found enjoying the ocean whether it is sailing or surfing.
