Blue Climate Solutions’ mission is to promote the conservation of the world’s coasts and oceans as a proactive and viable solution to the climate change challenge, a concept recently termed ‘Blue Carbon.’ We seek to advance policy that promotes the roles coastal and ocean ecosystems play as natural carbon sinks, including the conservation of ecosystems such as seagrass meadows, mangrove swamps, and salt marshes. Marine vertebrates are also being recognized for the role they play in the global carbon cycle. Blue Climate Solutions also seeks to promote marine science that further explores the roles natural ocean ecosystems play addressing the climate change challenge.
Our track record of success includes the following:
- advocacy and education for Blue Carbon policy at the US government and internationally (UNFCCC);
- creation of the Blue Climate Coalition, an international association formed to support the inclusion of marine conservation in climate change policy
