Por el Mar (PEM) is a grassroots marine conservation organization dedicated to protecting and restoring the ocean. PEM has been at the forefront of protecting the kelp forest ecosystem of Patagonia Argentina, driving the creation of marine protected areas and developing public policies to promote marine conservation and sustainable development. We employ an interdisciplinary approach that
integrates science, advocacy, community stewardship, activism, and impactful communication, to inspire change and transform it into reality.
Our approach is based on 4 pillars: Science & Conservation, Policy & Advocacy, Community Stewardship, Impact communication & Activism.
We envision a relationship of ecological awareness between the people and the sea; where human hearts are rewilded, generating a common future for all forms of life to thrive.
We seek to create and implement effective conservation strategies that protect and restore the ocean and our connectedness to it.
Our projects include The Sea Forests at the End of the World, Regenerative Ocean Farming, Sharks: Guardians of the Sea, and The Big Five Corridor.
Additionally, The Global Salmon Farming Resistance (GSFR) is an international initiative that brings together organizations and communities worldwide to oppose open-net salmon farming and protect marine ecosystems.
